This exam is for software developers, backend engineers, and full-stack developers who build applications on AWS. It's also valuable for DevOps-leaning developers who want to prove they understand deployment and operational aspects of their applications. One year of hands-on development experience with AWS is recommended.
The DVA-C02 exam has 65 questions (50 scored, 15 unscored) in multiple-choice and multiple-response format. You get 130 minutes, and the passing score is 720/1000 (approximately 72%). The exam costs $150 USD.

The Developer Associate focuses on writing code against AWS services (Lambda, DynamoDB, API Gateway, SDK), CI/CD pipelines, and application-level security. The Solutions Architect focuses on designing infrastructure. Developers should take the DVA, architects should take the SAA — though many people get both.
You won't write code during the exam, but you need to understand code snippets, SDK usage patterns, IAM policies in JSON, and CloudFormation/SAM templates. Hands-on experience with at least one programming language (Python, JavaScript, or Java are most common with AWS) is essential.
Build a serverless application using Lambda, API Gateway, and DynamoDB. Set up a CI/CD pipeline with CodePipeline. Then study IAM policies, encryption with KMS, and caching with ElastiCache and CloudFront. Our practice exams help identify which areas need more attention.
